New Splatterhouse Games?

This is the place where all info on any upcoming Splatterhouse games will be located.

NEWS:

5/12/08 - Here's the current scoop and some screenshots of the new game: it's being developed by BottleRocket for Namco Bandai. It's slated for release in 2009 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

SCREENSHOTS:

4/22/08 - It's official: a new Splatterhouse game has been announced! As a result, expect this page to be folded into the section covering the new game once more information on it becomes available.

OLD NEWS (2003-2007):

First from Andrew Ballard:

"NAMCO IS CONSIDERING A NEW SPLATTERHOUSE GAME!!!

The new issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (#163 Feb 2003) contains the following bit in the Quartermann Rumors and Gossip section on page 58."

"New 3D Splatterhouse?

The Q's spies indicate that Namco is considering bringing back its Splatterhouse series of side-scrolling hack-em-ups for a 3D installment. Seems that Jason Voorhees-lookalike and main character Rick just can't move into a house without zombies knockin' at the door...."

Second from Guy:

"I just received the March 2003 issue of GMR magazine, and they have an article in there about Namco's new line-up of games, and the first one mentioned is a new Splatterhouse. Here is that portion of the article."

"REVIVAL-Is it Namco month? It must be.

Our sources, snooping around the ventilation ducts of Namco HQ, have informed us that the House that Pac-Man Built is working on a next-gen update to its classic TurboGrafx 16 series, Splatterhouse. In this time when gore rules the new school, the return of Rick, Splatterhouse's chainsaw-wielding maniac antihero, could put the current kings of survival-horror (Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill) on their heels. In development inside the leathery, blood-soaked walls of Namco Japan, the game will likely not see the light of day until 2004. Still, are we pumped? If it means firing up that chainsaw, yeah, we are."

Fantastic! Now let's convince Namco to make this a reality! Visit Namco's U.S. site at this address: http://www.namco.com/usa_index.html - they don't provide an email address on the site to send requests to, but in the Community section you can provide feedback on their different games via a survey form, and they do have a box for additional comments. I strongly advise anyone interested in seeing this sequel become a reality to tell Namco what they think using that additional comments box. I already have. ^_^

Third, an interesting item, located here. Is this for real? We all certainly hope so, so keep checking back here for further updates...

Lastly, From Miha Rinne:

" I heard from someone who is *allegedly* working in namco USA that namco has not promoted it that much because the game was not looking very good 18 months ago, and its been on the edge of being cancelled all the time.

But alot can happen in 18 months, so lets hope they get it right :)"

Yes, let us hope...

2/16/07 - Unfortunately, there has been no news on ANY official new Splatterhouse games as of this writing, so everything on this page is just rumored, with no concrete evidence behind it. It's also all very old info now. Sadly, the PS2 Splatterhouse listing on Amazon.co.uk was removed, leading us to believe that it was either put up originally based on these rumors, or was just a hoax.. or a third possibility, it was a listing for the European release of the Japanese PS2 game Simple 2000 Series Vol. 64: The Splatter Action, which was a budget title created by D3 that has no relation to Namco's Splatterhouse series, despite what some sources would have us believe. The European version was released in June 2005 by 505 Game Street, and was retitled Splatter Master. I gave the game a brief mention as a rip-off in the Splatterhouse article I wrote for Hardcore Gaming 101, so if you want to take a look at it, just go there.

But, if the dashing of your dreams of hoped-for next-gen Splatterhouse games has you down, at least you can play a new Splatterhouse game, the excellent fan-made RPG Splatterhouse: 2k3. Feel free to discuss it with us over on the forum if you have any questions about it or need tips - you can even ask 5thman, the game's creator, questions as he does pop in over there from time to time.
